We’re planning a kitchen refresh in our Palo Alto home and I’m stuck on the lighting, specifically whether to hang pendants over the island or just go with recessed lights everywhere. The kitchen opens onto the living room so I want it to feel deliberate rather than an afterthought, but I also don’t want pendants that block the view or look dated in a few years. I came across The Kitchen and Bath Company of Palo Alto lighting ideas while trying to work out what actually works in an open plan space, and it helped me understand layering a bit better, but I’d still like to hear from people who’ve lived with their choices. Do pendants end up annoying you or do you stop noticing them? And is recessed lighting alone enough to see what you’re cooking or does it leave shadows on the counters? Any regrets either way would really help right now.
